First Steps to Safer Streets: Hialeah 2050 Master Plan's Collaborative Walking Audit Spurs Key Infrastructure Upgrades

9 August 2024

E 4th Ave Walking Audit

On November 14, 2023, the Hialeah 2050 Master Plan team embarked on our the first walking audit, focusing on East 4th Avenue. This audit was essential in identifying critical issues related to access, connectivity to transit, and much-needed sidewalk enhancements. One significant observation was the absence of a crossing leg at the northern intersection of East 4th Avenue and East 21st Street.

In response to this finding, our team collaborated closely with Miami-Dade County and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to assess and address the issue. We are excited to announce that FDOT has recognized the importance of our observations and is now undertaking a project to enhance East 21st Street, which includes installing the missing crosswalk.

This vital improvement project is scheduled to begin in November 2024, marking a significant step towards safer and more accessible urban infrastructure in our community. More information can be found here: fdotmiamidade.com

Together, we are making strides towards a safer and more connected Hialeah.
